Ladies’ Ministries

Ladies Bible Class

The Ladies Bible Class meets every Tuesday morning (September through May) at 9:30. It is taught by Marilyn LaStrape.

  • The goal of the class is to challenge the sisters to become deeper partakers of God’s divine holiness through an in-depth study and application of His word.
  • The class mails get well cards weekly and sympathy cards as needed.
  • The class (in small groups) visits the sick, shut-ins and homebound the last Tuesday of every month.
  • The class prepares special holiday baskets for the shut-in and homebound every December.
  • The class contributes some support to the Cuban children.

There is a luncheon following the last class in May before the class dismisses for the summer.

Abigail’s Basket

These ladies make sure there is plenty of candy Kisses at our guest book on Sunday mornings.

Dorcas’ Sewing Circle

These ladies provide baby blankets for Care Net Pregnancy Center; tie blankets to Linus Blankets and the Family Abuse Center; and crocheted blankets and throws and adult bibs to area nursing homes. Members of New Road receive one of these treasures if they are homebound or hospitalized. This group meets twice a month for crocheting, learning new patterns and fellowship.

Lydia’s Clothes Closet

Throughout the year the members at New Road donate clothing and shoes to be distributed to those in need. Those who work in this ministry take inventory and prepare clothes for distribution to our members, members of the community, the Family Abuse Center and Care Net Pregnancy Center.

Jars of Oil

Our card ministry has some of the best organized women you’ll ever meet. Sending cards for birthdays, sympathy or just because I’m thinking of you can really lift a brother or sister’s spirit. These ladies also send notes to our Sunday morning visitors.

Hannah’s Prayer Chain

There are currently two prayer chains. One chain is by telephone and is overseen by Carolyn Graves. The second chain is through e-mail and is overseen by Wanda Ryals. Members can contact the church secretary and a prayer chain leader when a situation arises that is in need of immediate prayers.

Caring Sisters

This group of Christian ladies meets once a month (September through May) to enjoy a meal, fun, fellowship and prayer. Their goal is to learn more about each other and form a special bond as sisters in Christ. Another part of Caring Sisters is “Secret Sisters”. This group is made up of ladies who want to draw a name in secret and pray for and send cards and gifts to their sister throughout the year. Names are revealed in May. Participation in Secret Sisters is optional. Linda Sanders is in charge of Caring Sisters and Secret Sisters.

Little Buddies Program

Hospitals can be a stressful place for kids of all ages. New Road donates coloring books, crayons, and activity pages to local hospitals for children 3 to 12 years of age. These are taken to the hospitals by our members every two to three months.

Disaster Relief

Donations of men’s, women’s and children’s toiletries, paper goods, and work gloves are boxed and labeled. Each box also contains a Bible. When disaster strikes these boxes are sent to the local Church of Christ in the affected area. Monetary donations are also accepted. Bobbie Medlin and Sharon Youngblood are in charge of this ministry.

Pantry

Non-perishable food donations are given by our members and are distributed to members of our church family who may be in need, as well as members of the community who make their needs known to us. Jerrie Lynn Corbitt is in charge of this ministry.

Ladies Day

Each year our ladies conduct a “Ladies Day” for girls and women from New Road and other area congregations. This is usually conducted in February. We have a guest speaker who provides lessons based on God’s word that is beneficial to all ladies of all ages. Lunch is provided at the conclusion of the day.
